I have a pfSense installed in a Proxmox VM with Hardware Checksum Offloading and TX offload disabled in pfSense and Proxmox. The VM was configured using the guide from Netgate (VirtIO drivers for NIC). My network is segemented into VLANs sharing one 1 Gbits connection as a trunk to pfSense.

I have a very strange issue with PFsense as router running in KVM with CentOS 7. https connections are incredibly slow (10KB/s or less), and uploads over https simply don't work; for example using https://imgur.com over https loads, but uploading an image will take minutes, after which it says it failed.

I have my pfSense as an appliance, running a Intel 1.7GHz Dual-core Atom ( ! ) with 4GB RAM, it rarely goes over 5% with Squid/Squidguard/ntopng/two OpenVPN instances/snort/reporting. I bet it could run on an old P3 650MHz without trouble.
