At that time, the only game I knew from Valve was Half-Life, so I was looking at this game being too cartoony, even with it's mature 18+ rating. Upon June 2011, the game was now free to play from Valve's online game distributor Steam.

The original Team Fortress was a free mod for Quake 1 that came out in 1996, and it forever changed FPS games. TF was the first game that really focused on class based team play. So many games follow that model now. Team Fortress 2 is not quite the same game as its 1996 incarnation.
